- While hydroquinone is considered the gold-standard skin-brightening ingredient, it comes with the potential for many side effects, can only be used for several months at a time, and can’t be used during pregnancy.
- In a head-to-head trial, Skinuva Brite was found to be nearly 30% more effective at treating hyperpigmentation than 4% hydroquinone.
- Hyperpigmentation is a complicated process that involves many steps and pathways. Using a product that combines multiple brightening ingredients, all of which work in different ways and at various steps of the process, boosts results.
Apply twice daily to clean skin, morning and night, on any areas of discoloration. In the morning, wait two to three minutes, then apply sunscreen over it. Do not use any other moisturizing creams or serums with this product.
Because this product is hydroquinone-free, it’s suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
This treatment can increase the efficacy of lasers and chemical peels. Use in combination with a retinoid for three weeks pre-procedure.
Some results can be seen as soon as 30 days, though long-term use is recommended for best results.
Sun exposure exacerbates any type of hyperpigmentation, so be sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
Full ingredients list:
Growth factors: Selectively chosen growth factors, including epidermal growth factor, reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
Tranexamic acid: It inhibits tyrosinase, a pigment-producing enzyme, to minimize the appearance and recurrence of discoloration and spots.
Niacinamide: Also known as vitamin B3, this water-soluble vitamin prevents the transfer of pigment in the skin, to help fade and prevent dark spots. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier.
Vitamin C: This both acts as a protective antioxidant and inhibits tyrosinase, to minimize hyperpigmentation.
Arbutin: A plant-based ingredient naturally occurring in the bearberry plant, this is another effective tyrosinase inhibitor and skin brightener. It works especially well when paired with vitamin C.
